Year 9 Maths

In the last days of remote learning, the Year 9 Maths 1 class completed their study of Probability and Statistics by undertaking an Investigation.  They were encouraged to choose any question in an area of interest to them, gather the data by means of online research, surveying family and friends, or measuring something in their lives such as running speeds or the number of times a flipped coin came up heads.

They were required to make use of the statistical techniques they had been learning in their remote lessons in order to answer their questions and to suggest directions for future research.  Since the whole investigation was conducted at home at the end of the long, long lockdown, they were encouraged to collaborate with one another, friends and families in order to broaden the scope of their investigation.

The breadth of their interests is evident in their questions, with music, sport and the environment being the most popular general areas of research.

Here is a selection of the investigations. Prepare to be amazed at the level of sophistication these Year 9 students have brought to this task!
