A MESSAGE FROM THE (ACTING) PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Bethany,

Welcome to Term 4, it was wonderful to see the girls back at school well rested and ready to embrace the final term of 2020.

On October 3, Pope Francis released his third encyclical, Fratelli Tutti. This latest encyclical reminds us of the importance of respect for each and every person, challenging Christians to see the face of Christ in everyone. Fratelli Tutti, highlights many of the aspects of contemporary living that detract from the common good and emphasises our shared responsibility for creating a global society that is based on love, kindness, charity and forgiveness. A society where we actively seek to engage in dialogue that promotes acceptance and respect and is built on an awareness that we share responsibility for the creation of a society where the marginalised are included.

This Sunday’s Gospel from Matthew 22: 5-21 ties in well with the message of this encyclical where we are reminded of the importance of the sacred in our lives, ensuring that our interactions with others are honest and transparent. This passage, much like Pope Francis’ encyclical, encourages us to consider carefully the ways in which we can use the gifts that God has given to build a society based on respect and dignity for all. This underpins all we do at Bethany.

Updated COVID 19 guidelines

In line with current health advice, we continue to request that any student who is experiencing flu like symptoms does not attend school and are tested for COVID 19, a copy of the negative test result must be sighted and received by the school before your daughter returns to school. Unfortunately, we are unable to have large groups of parents on site, therefore our Year 11 Parent/Student/ Teacher interviews will be conducted via Zoom. Year 11 parents are reminded that bookings will open at 2.30pm on Tuesday October 20 and close at 3pm on Monday October 26.

The updated COVID guidelines permit the recommencement of interschool sport as well as excursions, camps and reflection days under strict COVID safe guidelines.  Year 7 Orientation Day will go ahead on November 27, details of which will be communicated to families of the students enrolled for 2021.

Year 12 Pattern of Study Review Interviews

On Monday, our Year 11 students will be engaged in interviews with our Teaching and Learning Coordinators and Leadership Team to review their pattern of study for Year 12. This is an important step towards ensuring that students have the greatest opportunity for success in their HSC year.

HSC Nominations

We continue to celebrate with pride the achievements of our Year 12 class, with additional nominations in Dance, Music (studied at SCCVC) and Art.  Congratulations to Zoe Stragilinos who has been nominated for possible inclusion in Encore and to Amber Lazos who has been nominated for possible inclusion in Art Express.

I ask you to keep in your prayers over the coming weeks our Year 12 class of 2020 as they undertake their HSC exams which commence on Tuesday October 20. The prayerful support of the community is greatly appreciated. We wish them all the very best for the exam period.
