A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Bethany,
This Sunday is the third week of Easter and in the gospel Luke 24:35-48, Jesus said to his disciples “Peace be with you”. This was in response to the disciples being agitated about seeing Jesus as the risen Christ with the wounds of his crucifixion. The gospel describes how Jesus had forewarned the disciples that it was written that he would rise after the third day and His resurrection would reflect forgiveness that should be preached to all nations. The Bethany Community can keep this message alive with the four simple words of “Peace be with you.” How do we contribute to peace in our local community, in our homes and in our relationships?
Peace is not the product of terror or fear.
Peace is not the silence of cemeteries.
Peace is not the silence of violent repression.
Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all.
Peace is dynamism.
Peace is generosity.
It is right and duty.
P&F Bingo Night
Please save the date of May 18 from 7pm to attend our Bingo Night organised by our wonderful P&F. This is a night where you can book a table, socialise with friends and support the College through your generosity. If there are any parents who can donate items for prizes, raffles or silent auctions, it would be greatly appreciated. We are in need of items for prizes or funds to purchase prizes. No donation or gesture is too small. We are especially interested if you run or know someone who runs a business and they could offer a gift voucher, hamper or item as a prize. Our Student Representative Council will also be active in the collection of items for prizes. We thank those parents who are already busily approaching local business’ for prizes.
DISA Parent Survey
Bethany is involved with research with the University of Southern Queensland to track the College’s learning journey over the last few years. Approximately 5 years ago, this survey was given to all staff, students and parents as a way of aligning what form the learning journey needed to take in terms of developing a school wide pedagogy. It is now time to further evaluate the directions of the Bethany learning journey by completing another DISA survey. The value of surveys can only be seen if enough parents spend the time to complete one. I ask that you take approximately 10 minutes to complete the survey by using the link below.
Thank you for your cooperation in giving us your feedback.
At the beginning of the year, all students were asked to set their learning goals for the year ahead. During this holiday period I have asked all girls at assembly this week to reflect on their goals and to assess where they are up to in achieving these and also if they need to be reset. Term 2 brings further and more heavily weighted assessments and it is vital that students return having their eye very clearly on what they want to achieve and more importantly, how they are going to achieve this. Please talk with your daughter about their goals over the holiday break.
On Wednesday a group of our students accompanied by Mrs Matthews, Mr Gianni and Mrs Baldwin flew out to begin the biannual trip to Europe which encompasses key sites across Germany, Italy and England. Of particular interest to Visual Arts, Italian and History students will be the art galleries with famous works, war sites and museums and immersing in the different languages across Italy and Germany. We wish the staff and students a memorable and safe trip and look forward to hearing about their adventure.
As I complete my first term here at the College, I again thank you for the wonderful welcome and orientation that I have experienced at Bethany. I have enjoyed your friendly conversations and feedback and look forward to further immersing myself in the College next term. I wish all students a safe and restful break and I look forward to watching the Bethany learning journey continue.
