A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Bethany,
During November in the calendar of the Church there are two occasions when we remember and celebrate those who have gone before us. These days are All Saints Day and All Souls Day. By studying the life of those who have been named by the Church as Saints we can learn about the times in which these people lived and the way in which they met the call from God in their time.
All Souls Day is an opportunity to remember and honour those who we know who have died. They hold a special place in our own hearts and the time that we spend in celebrating their life and the way in which they have cared for us reminds us of the love we are shown by God in giving us his son Jesus to us as an example of unconditional love.
As we reflect on the past year since the last All Souls Day, may we pray for all of those connected to the Bethany community who have died. For our students, family members, friends and colleagues all who have been saddened by death, we pray that comfort can be found in their eternal rest.
As you know we were delighted for Mrs Russo on her appointment as the Assistant Principal at Clancy Catholic College West Hoxton. Although it will be sad to farewell Mrs Russo, I know that you join with me to wish her every success in the future. All parents and students will have the opportunity to farewell Mrs Russo at our end of year academic awards ceremonies.
Mrs Fleming, our Teacher Librarian, Mrs Symes our HSIE/RE teacher and Mr Symes our groundperson have all made the decision to retire at the end of the year. Each of these staff members have made long and significant contributions to our College Community. We will also formally farewell these staff members as a community at the end of year academic awards ceremonies.
Last week, we welcomed Mrs Jagoda Krstanovski as the new Executive Assistant to the Principal and Enrolments Officer, replacing Mrs Ann James who retired last term. Mrs Krstanovski will be the face of all future enrolments to the College and comes with a wealth of experience from various positions across Sydney Catholic Schools.
Class of 2018
Today signals the last day of the HSC Exam period. We applaud each of the Year 12 students for their diligence over this exam period and we look forward to seeing their results and hearing about their successes in the weeks ahead.
Year 12 Class of 2019
Our new Year 12 cohort has made an outstanding start to their final year, immediately immersing into their Stage 6 pattern of study. Particularly impressive were our new student leaders hosting their first College Assembly yesterday. Alexis, Claudia, Cassandra and India shared their vision for student leadership which involved making a difference and enhancing the Bethany learning Principles and Values.
This Sunday, St Raphael’s South Hurstville will celebrate their 90th anniversary with Mass at 10 am celebrated by His Grace Anthony Fisher. At assembly yesterday, all ex students of St Raphael’s were encouraged to attend.
Also this Sunday, Bethany are hosting the Youth Mass at St Michael’s Hurstville at 6pm. This is a Mass that we hope to help organise each month. Please come along if you possibly can.
