A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

100% HOPE

Lives change when we all give 100%.

Lent begins next Wednesday with the marking of ashes, this public sign reminds us to live the way Jesus wants. It is the beginning of our preparation for Easter when Jesus dies on the cross and rises from the dead. Lent is a special time when we stop and think about how we can play our part in God’s hope for a world that is fair, just and peaceful. Through prayer, fasting and almsgiving we take the focus from ourselves and instead focus on our relationship with God and how serving others draws us closer to God. We also think about giving all of ourselves to be God’s love and mercy in our world as we look to give Lent 100% in all that we do as people of hope. (Caritas Australia)

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Bethany,

At our Opening Mass earlier this month, we were reminded about the gifts that each of us have and how we are serving God by maximising our gifts and encouraging others to use theirs. The message by Caritas Australia this year for Lent is 100% hopeSuch a simple statement can mean so much to each member of our community. At assembly today students were challenged to think about how they can be symbols of hope and give 100% in all that they do. We can speak of donating to Caritas in the form of money however the real change is when we can promote hope, offer hope and be hope filled. Hope is the overarching gift that Jesus gives us during the Easter season.

Inquiry and Review

This week each family received an email from the College asking for a survey to be completed helping to inform the future directions of the College. For survey information to be useful, a high return of responses is necessary. I ask that you take 20 minutes to complete this survey for the sake of your daughter’s educational needs. Thank you to those parents who have already completed the survey.

Open Day

I have been privileged to take our Year 7 students to each of our Primary feeder schools over the last few weeks. We have been given the opportunity to speak with all Year 4 and 5 girls about what high school is like and what Bethany has to offer. Families of these students have been invited to our Open Day this coming Tuesday from 3-6pm. Open Day is a fabulous opportunity for prospective students to get a feel for Bethany and to view our facilities, programs and meet our staff and students. Please encourage families that you may know to attend.

High Achievers Assembly

We recently had the privilege to celebrate the academic successes of our high achievers from the graduating class of 2018. These girls returned to the College to receive awards and to offer advice to our current Year 11 and 12 students. The girls were inspirational in their message of gratitude for their teachers and friends, motivational in terms of study tips of what to do and not to do and exemplary in showing that there is much to look forward to beyond the HSC. Following in this newsletter is the speech of our dux for 2018. I hope that you enjoy reading Jessica’s speech.

Catholic Identity and Mission

In recent months we have been working closely with Fr Janusz and the parish at St Michael’s to increase opportunities for our girls to celebrate the Eucharist. Last Wednesday Ms Wood organised an opportunity for students to attend reconciliation and Mass at lunchtime. It was delightful to share in Mass in our College chapel with all seats full. Thanks to Fr Janusz for his generosity of time.

Our monthly Youth Masses at St Michael’s continue with the next one being held on Sunday March 10 at 6pm. Please encourage your daughter to attend.

Student Leave

A reminder to all families that leave should only be requested under exceptional circumstances. Continuity of learning is paramount to ongoing growth of student learning.

Parent Help Needed

Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to be on our Finance Committee, we will make contact with you shortly. If any other parent wants to join this committee, please contact the College. 1 hour of your time each term is all that we ask.

We are still in need of parent volunteers for the BBQ for Open Day. Any time that you can offer between 1 and 6pm would be appreciated.
