A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Bethany,
This Sunday, called Palm or Passion Sunday, is the first day of Holy Week. Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday are called the Triduum, three days that are the highlight of the Church year. As a Catholic Community may we find time across these Easter holidays to make space for Jesus in our lives. May we be reminded of the true message of Easter which is one of hope.
Farewell to Dr Dan White
On Tuesday together with Mr Gough, I was privileged to take a few 11 students to St Mary’s Cathedral to be part of the retirement Mass for Dr Dan White, the Executive Director of Sydney Catholic Schools. As you know Dr White was Principal at Bethany for 1 week during 2017. The Mass was a wonderful celebration and we were blessed to be able to hear from Dr White for one final time and reflect on the many legacies that he has left for Sydney Catholic Schools. Each of the 152 schools was represented by a banner which is shown in the photograph below. We wish Dr Dan White happiness and good health in his retirement.
This week all parents should have received communication either by email, text or post to let you know of our migration to Compass beginning next term. If you have not received your username and password please contact the College for this. Compass will rely on parent emails being kept up to date. I encourage you to read the login details sent to you and the accompanying instructions in this newsletter to be Compass ready. We ask that you download the Compass App onto your mobile phones and have alerts turned on for this for ease of communication.
Inquiry and Review
The College will undertake the Inquiry and Review Process on May 2 and 3 next term. This process requires the College to address recommendations from 2015 and to look at the improvement journey of Bethany since 2015 and advise of future directions that the College wishes to take. I thank those parents who will take part in the next stage of the process by speaking with the visiting panel on May 2.
Please mark in your diaries May 6 at 7pm for our next P&F Meeting. These meetings are strictly one hour of your time and are a way to show support to the College in regards to future directions and be informed of current initiatives inside the College. They are held in the College Library and are also a key way to meet other parents. Please come along as we finalise preparations for the Bingo Night.
When: May 17, 6.30pm
Where: Yalunga Hall
Tickets: will be available shortly, please reserve your table by emailing our P&F President Les Salisbury
We need your help, if any parent can donate any prize or buy vouchers to donate as prizes, no matter how large or small. You may consider books of movie tickets, dinner vouchers, a contact you may have for a business who will donate or access to organisations who can donate signed sport memorabilia or the like. All money raised after costs will go back to providing further resources for your daughter at the College.
Mother’s Day Mass
We warmly invite all mums, grandmothers and significant female role models in the lives of our girls to our Mother’s Day Mass followed by a light morning tea on Thursday May 9. Mass begins at 7.30am at St Michael’s. We look forward to seeing a Church full of our mums.
On a final note I would like to wish the entire Bethany Community a blessed and Holy Easter. May the Easter season bring time to reflect on where we are and a reminder to slow down to spend time with our faith and the people who are most important in our lives. I thank our staff for going beyond just their role in offering opportunities for our girls and for the feedback and support that we get from parents to help make Bethany such a vibrant learning community for our girls.
