Careers

The Careers program has started this year with the Year 10 Careers lesson once every 2 weeks and Careers Interviews for Year 12 students.

The ‘Lunchtime Careers Talks’ will again be held this year with relevant tertiary institutions and will begin in Term 2. 

All students have access to, and are encouraged to visit the Careers Room in the Marian building which is generally open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at lunchtime.

The students will also have access to a number of useful careers websites via a College subscription. Details of these will be made available in later newsletters and will be a valuable resource for students and parents/caregivers.

It is important for students to read this Careers Newsletter regularly, and in particular Year 12 students as this will main form of communication of careers information relevant to them.

The careers newsletter will contain general careers news as well as important information for Year 12 students regarding application procedures, open days, event information and other useful resources and links, as outlined below.

ADFA Education Award: Applications Close 28 February

The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) Education Award is presented annually to Year 12 students in recognition of leadership potential, and academic and sporting achievements exhibited during Year 11. You need to submit an application prior to 28 February in the year you undertake Year 12. However, you are encouraged to apply in Year 11. Applications open for this year’s Year 11 students on 1st May.

UNSW Engineering: Through engineers’ eyes: engineering mechanics by experiment, analysis and design

Work Experience & Meet a Keeper Days at Taronga

The work experience program applications closing date is 19th Feb 2016.  The Meet a Keeper program is for those aged 14 years and over interested in becoming a zoo keeper. Jobs of Tomorrow Scholarships

The NSW Government is offering Jobs of Tomorrow Scholarships to students undertaking selected government-subsidised qualifications on the NSW Skills List in areas related to science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM).

Students who commence training in one of these qualifications on or after 1 January 2016 with an approved Smart and Skilled training provider are eligible to apply for a Jobs of Tomorrow Scholarship worth $1,000.
