Hyde Park ANZAC Ceremony

On Tuesday the 9th of April, six Year 11 students attended the RSL ANZAC Day Ceremony held at Hyde Park. The ceremony was a reverent acknowledgement of the sacrifices of Australian and New Zealand soldiers, as well as an active display of a nation’s appreciation for military services. Being given the opportunity to hear speeches from significant members of the Australian community and representatives of the Australian Defence Force, we were humbled to be among those who attended. We were invited to participate by laying a wreath among those brought by a number of Sydney schools. The solemnity offered by the ceremony to all Australian soldiers and their families was an experience, allowing us to actively reflect on our own community involvement and service. In remembrance of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces in Gallipoli, our attendance at Hyde Park’s ANZAC Day Ceremony was both humbling and reverent, prompting us as a community to solemnly call to mind the basis of commemoration: Lest we Forget.
