Screen Time Habits for Good Eye Health
The Wellbeing Survey conducted in Term 3 revealed that Bethany students are spending an increased amount of time on their devices, both for learning and leisure.
About 70% of students in Year 7- 10 spend between 1-4 hours a day on social media.
Approx. 50% of Year 11 and 12 students spend 3-4 hours a day on social media.
Dr Kristy Goodwin from Parenting Ideas has some simple strategies to help keep children and teenagers sight healthy and in optimum condition.
Keep an eye on their eyes. Be alert for symptoms and take them to an optometrist if the symptoms persist.
Teach them the 20/20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes take a break from the screen
Encourage them to keep all devices at an arm’s length distance from their eyes
Make sure the room has appropriate lighting to not strain their eyes
Encourage them to head outdoors and get some fresh air and sunlight.
