SCS Sport Update

Congratulations to all staff and students on their efforts throughout the term in Basketball and Touch Football. Week 9 saw the end of our Conference Division, where Bethany had multiple teams playing in the Semi Finals and Finals on the same day.

Junior Touch Football and Basketball, Intermediate Basketball, and Senior Touch Football and Basketball all played in their respective semi finals. Unfortunately our Junior and Intermediate Basketball, and Senior  and Intermediate Touch Football teams were knocked out.

Our Junior Touch Football Team were successful in progressing to the final where they came up against St John Bosco, Engadine. It was a tough game in some less than ideal weather conditions. The game ended in a draw and the drop rule came into play. Our girls rallied and shortly after recommencing play, were able to score a try, winning the game 3-2. Congratulations girls.

Our Senior Basketball Team was also successful in progressing to the final where they came up against St Patrick’s Sutherland.

As a result, both teams progressed to play off against the other Conferences in an All Sydney Championship which was held yesterday.

Our Junior Touch Football Team played at Christie Park, Macquarie Park in some seriously wet conditions. Their first game was against Freeman Catholic College, Bonnyrigg where the girls showed great team work and talent, coming away with an 8-0 win. They progressed to the Final against OLSH Kensington and unfortunately went down 3-0, finishing second overall in all of Sydney Catholic Schools which is an outstanding achievement.

Lucy Teplicanec was also named player of the match in the final!

Congratulations to the Senior Basketball team who finished 3rd overall in the Sydney Catholic Schools Autumn Championships.

The Seniors played two games.
Unfortunately lost against the overall winners MSJ (41-29). They played for 3rd place again St Clair’s and won 42-16.
A job well done by all participants.

Congratulations to Sophia Brightwell and Jessica Brightwell who have been selected to attend the trials for the NSWCCC Touch Football Team. The trials are being held on Friday 8th April and we wish the girls the best of luck!

Congratulations and well done to the students who represented the college at the NSWCCC Swimming Championships on Wednesday 6th April.

Our Intermediate (15/16yrs) relay team came 6th overall which is a great achievement considering all swimmers are only 15! Well done to Jessica Brightwell, Monique Johnson, Juliet King and Millie Wong.

Juliet King and Tameeka Johnson were successful in placing in the top 3 in a number of races and will both progress to the All Schools Championships.
