St. Vincent de Paul Social Justice Day
Australian Catholic University, Strathfield Campus
On Friday the 22nd of November five Year 12 Bethany Students along with Mr. Laguzza attended the St. Vincent de Paul Social Justice Day at the Australian Catholic University in Strathfield. The day sought to promote the work of St. Vincent de Paul around the world and most prominently in our own backyard, Australia. Here, the organisers explored ways in which we could engage with our own St. Vincent de Paul initiatives in our own school setting. One of these initiatives included making Christmas cards for refugees and asylum seekers living in detention centres on Manus and Nauru Island. In sending messages of positivity and well-wishes over the Christmas season, students were able to give the gift of hope to those enduring hardship. There were also multiple opportunities to listen to seminars throughout the day, covering topics ranging from mental health awareness to implementing morals behind the stations of the cross, such as generosity, into daily life by helping the disadvantaged.
