Study Skills evening

Last week Dr Prue Salter from Enhanced Learning Educational Services (www.enhanced-learning.net) ran a study skills evening with Years 8/9 parents and students.  The evening helped families assess what changes could be made to help students move towards achieving their personal best efficiently and effectively. Families examined the following areas:

  • home study environment
  • the way they organise and manage their resources
  • how to work effectively at home and deal with distractions
  • how to manage the workload in high school
  • the steps to studying in high school: making study notes, learning the notes by testing yourself and doing as much practise as possible.

Parents are encouraged to review the slides and handout from the session with your daughters and discuss the identified areas where changes need to be made.  Parents can also find extra study skills tips on the following website: http://studyskillstoptipsparents.com/

All secondary students at our school also have access to a great study skills website to help students develop their skills. Go to www.studyskillshandbook.com.au and enter the username: bethanyhurstville and the password: 65success  and start improving your results today!

Year 10 Allwell Results

The results of the Academic Assessment Services (Allwell) testing have been sent home to families. These results help to inform the Stage 6 subject recommendations given to students by the relevant Teaching and Learning Coordinators. Of particular importance is the ‘National Progress Index’ page which shows student growth from Year 6 to Year 10 in the areas of reading, writing and numeracy.

We encourage families to discuss these results with your daughter.

Year 10 Subject Selection Interviews

A reminder that these occur in week 1 Term 3 in the College on Tuesday 13 July and Wednesday 14 July and that parents should have booked a 15 minute interview time through Compass. At the moment we are still hoping to have these happen in person, on site. A reminder that the Subject Selection window will open after school on Wednesday 14 July and that it does not matter when in the window that you choose. Subject selection closes on Wednesday 28 July at 3.30pm.
