What’s Been Happening in Religious Education

Year 8 and 10 Religious Education Tests

On Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 October, all of Year 8 and Year 10 will be sitting the Sydney Catholic Schools Religious Education Test.  The purpose of the test is to gain insight into the Religious Literacy of all students within the Archdiocese. This insight then helps to give direction to programming to meet the needs of our students and for professional development for staff.

The test will run for one hour and will be held during period 1 at school.  The test will cover all areas of the Stage 4 RE curriculum for Year 8 and all areas of the Stage 5 RE curriculum for Year 10. Students will be given time in their religion classes to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the test prior to the holidays.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you wish to discuss the test.

You Can’t Ask That

I recently watched an episode of You Can’t Ask That on the ABC and it was directed to priests. The episode featured Catholic, Anglican, Baptist and Uniting Church priests.  They were asked some very candid questions and their responses were very open and honest. In light of the many scandals facing the Church and its priests, these men (and two women) were very willing to share their insight into the “curly” questions that people may have about priests and how they deal with the stigma of being a priest in our increasingly secular society.  It was an interesting and insightful thirty minutes and I recommend it to you.
