Year 10 History Debating

On the 2nd of November, the Year 10 History Debating Team competed against Sydney Technical Boys High School in the semi-finals of the 2018 J.A. Thompson History Debating Competition. The topic was, “That Australian Historians overplay our role in the World Wars” – with Bethany being the affirmative side. With time and effort, along with many lunchtime meetings we were able to compile our research and confidently compete against Sydney Tech. In this debate, we examined the ANZAC legend, commemoration and the purpose of Australian historians in our society. We found this debate topic harder compared to previous rounds due to the topic dealing with concepts related to the HSC History Extension Course. Year 10 Bethany was again successful in this debate round and will progress to the grand finals against North Sydney Girls later this term.

Thank you to all the teachers who volunteered their lunch times to help us including Miss Carrabs and Ms Matthews for assisting at times and most importantly, Mrs Pikis for working with us again, helping us with ideas and always having faith in us.
