Years 10 and 11 History Debating
On the 7th of June, girls from Years 10 and 11 participated in the History debating competition. Bethany hosted schools including Shellharbour Anglican College, Tara Anglican School for Girls and Sydney Technical High School. Year 10 Bethany students competed in two debates for the questions “Kevin Rudd’s apology was an effective response to the Stolen Generations” and “Australia’s time under the Menzies Government was an era of prosperity.” Year 11’s topic was “That Alexander the Great was a global visionary”.
After many weeks of preparation and meetings, we were able to confidently compete against the opposing schools. The amount of research and knowledge we acquired through this process significantly enhanced our understanding of several political, social and economical pillars which had affected our national and international story. It was a great day and we all enjoyed meeting new people from other schools and debating in the competition.
Overall at the end of the day, Year 10 walked away with a win against Shellharbour and await to see the final draw!
Thank you to Mrs Pikis, Mrs Matthews and Ms Simos for helping us prepare for our debates and supporting us throughout the day.
